From cafes to quaint specialty shops, downtown Loris has it all. Loris dining offers more than twenty restaurants for you to choose from. Loris's specialty shops will be a delightful change of pace from the malls and amusements just miles away. With a treasure trove of fine women's and children's clothing, hunting apparel, gifts, crafts, novelties and art; you will soon find out what the locals already know.

The Loris Parks and Recreation Department oversees organized sports for adults and children on a year-round basis, everything from baseball, football, cheerleading, soccer and basketball. The City of Loris maintains the park at Heniford Field. The park features a children's playground, picnic shelters, tennis courts and several baseball and soccer fields. The Horry County Council on Aging, which has facilities and activities throughout Horry County, is headquartered in Conway and provides assistance to senior citizens. The Loris Senior Citizens Center is located in the Loris Garden Apartments on Suggs Street. An exercise room, library, computer room, arts and crafts are among the amenities offered. For the golf fans, we have several golf courses surrounding the Loris area within a ten-mile drive. Crown Park Golf Club and Woodland Valley Country Club all with 18 hole facilities and Aberdeen Country Club with 27 holes. The local library is home for over 14,000 books and periodicals; and provides research and recreation for all ages.

The Waccamaw River supports a variety of water activities including boating, water-skiing, kayaking, hydro sliding and jet skiing. In addition, the river is an excellent haven for fisherman. Within the numerous wooded sections of the area, one will find ample game. Deer and duck seasons bring hunting enthusiasts from all around. Local recreational and educational opportunities are also provided by Playcard Environmental Education Center and the Loris branch of the Horry County Library. Playcard is located about four miles from downtown Loris, and provides conservation and nature education.  On the first Saturday in November the Center celebrates its Annual Forever Wild Swampfest. At Swampfest you will be able to spend the day with Marine Scientists from Coastal Carolina University studying wet labs, learn how the Native American Indians of the area lived, or paddle in a canoe. See exhibits from Alligator Adventure and The South Carolina Children's Museum. Loris' climate is favorable for year-round outdoor activities making it truly a recreation haven for all.

The Great Loris Bog-Off Festival is held annually on the third Saturday in October. The highlight of the Bog-Off Festival is a Chicken Bog Cooking Contest. Contestants come from miles around to test their recipe in a competition. Festivities begin at 9 a.m. and last into the evening. This annual event attracts more than 35,000 people annually. Spend the day being entertained by two stages of live entertainment and over one hundred craft vendors. While you are there be sure to try the Chicken Bog.

Small Town, Big Show Festival is held the third Saturday in April.  The festival highlights multiple classes of Cars, Trucks, Tractors and Motorcycle in the judged show.  This festival has something for everyone in the family. .  Make sure to join us for the wonderful event.
